HUSSARS’ TRADITIONS

In implementing the project, one of our stated aims is to revive and nurture the traditions of one of the most characteristic representatives of Hungarian warfare, hussars. We are fully and emotionally dedicated to support the nurturing and promoting the Hungarian hussar traditions.

In implementing the project, one of our stated aims is to revive and nurture the traditions of one of the most characteristic representatives of Hungarian warfare, hussars. Many of us tend to identify Hussars as light cavalry at the end of 18th century and beginning of 19th century. But tradition is much older.

The origin of the word "hussar" is also unclear.

According to some beliefs, the word “Hussar” originates from the Latin cursor, or courier, while others are also derived from the Latin corsarius and the Italian Corsaro, the meaning of which is pirate. In addition, there is the view that South Slavic word “hurszár” (robber) has come to the Hungarian.

Despite the somewhat controversial nature of the word, for most of us, the Hussar is a model example of Hungarian pride and courage, who, if It is needed, gives his life for his country. The Miskahusar was conceived and constructed by István Rohonczi in the form of a hussar, holding the Hungarian flag, commemorating this warlike form and these soldiers.
